Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving; Second Edition, July, 2005 a 28 hour
course required by Aging and Disability Services Administration (ADSA);
Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), State of Washington. This
course is for all non-certified Caregivers employed in Assisted Living
Facilities, Adult Family Homes, or as Home Health Caregivers. However, this
course is open to all who desire a comprehensive course of study in Caregiving.
This course is divided into 11 Modules:

- Module 2 The Client and Client Rights
- Module 3
The Caregiver
- Module 4 Infection Control
- Module 5 Mobility
- Module 6 Basic
Communication
- Module 7 Skin and Body Care
- Module 8 Nutrition and Food Handling
- Module 9 The Process of Elimination
- Module 10 Medications and Other Treatments
- Module 11 Self Care and the Caregiver
Student learning is evaluated through Testing of the Module materials and
Skills Testing of many of the 21 Skills that are taught throughout the course. A
passing grade is mandatory for all Testing to qualify for successfully
completing the course.
Modified Fundamentals of Caregiving; Second Edition, September, 2005 a
self-study course required by ADSA; DSHS, State of Washington. This course is
for certified Caregivers ONLY (NA-C, LPN, RN). This course is divided into 6
Modules:

- Module 4 Medications and Other Treatments
- Module 5 Food

Nurse Delegation for Caregivers is a 9 hour course available for all caregivers who might assume the role of delegation of specific nursing tasks. A registered nurse is able to delegate these tasks but maintains the overall responsibility for care. This course is divided into three units, each describing separate aspects of nurse delegation. Upon completion of the course, the caregiver has a basic understanding of the complexity of delegated tasks.
CPR Training
a course taught by an American Heart Association Certified Instructor. The
course includes basic Adult CPR, use of the Automatic External Defibrillator (AED),
and management of the conscious and unconscious airway. Infant resuscitation
information is available upon request during the course.
First Aid Training a course taught by a Licensed Instructor. The
course includes numerous basic First Aid measures which may be needed until EMS
help arrives.
HIV / AIDS Training
This HIV / AIDS curriculum is consistent with WAC (Washington Administrative
Code) 296-62-08001, Blood Borne Pathogens, implementing WISHA (Washington
Industrial Safety and Health Act; which is the state equivalent of OSHA: the
Occupational Safety and Health Administration). The subject of HIV / AIDS is
addressed in enough detail that additional training is not considered necessary.
Mental Health Specialty Training for Providers and Caregivers
an 8 hour
course of instruction required by ADSA; DSHS, State of Washington. This course
is for all Providers (Managers) and Caregivers working in a facility which has
Mental Health resident(s) in residence. It provides comprehensive training in
the specialized care of the Mental Health resident. The curriculum used is
approved by ADSA; DSHS, State of Washington, and either the Manager Mental
Health Written Exam or Caregiver Mental Health Written Exam is administered
after the course. A passing grade is required for Certification to be issued.
Dementia Specialty Training for Providers and Caregivers
an 8 hour course of
instruction required by ADSA; DSHS, State of Washington. This course is for all
Providers (Managers) and Caregivers working in a facility which has a Dementia
resident(s) in residence. It provides comprehensive training in the specialized
care of the Dementia resident. The curriculum used is approved by ADSA; DSHS,
State of Washington, and either the Manager Dementia Written Exam or Caregiver
Dementia Written Exam is administered after the course. A passing grade is
required for Certification to be issued.
